Day 5 – Cirque back to Glacier Lake

Day 5 – Cirque back to Glacier Lake

Leisurely start to the day – breakfast was burritos – egg, bacon and cheese with salsa. Couple pots of cowboy coffee. Then we broke camp. We started down the trail – very steep and challenging for the first 3 hours then leveled out through the forest, gorgeous loam, undergrowth and thankfully today no wasps.

Long day but at least we had packs that were slightly lighter as the food had been eaten.

Arrived back at Glacier lake around 3 and promptly stripped and ran into the glacier lake in undies. So hot from the climb down and the water so brilliantly freezing, bloody, cold! Dale cast his line out into the lake where the river comes in in the hopes of catching dinner – but no joy. Perry practiced with the Drone – after much challenge but got it going brilliantly

Just chilling now in the sun. We will send our hiking boots and packs out with the Twin Otter – He arrived at about 6:30, strong winds so quite a fun takeoff into the wind and wow what a bank!!!. He puddle jumped us back to Rabbit Kettle Lake.

Rabbit Kettle was quite exciting – there is a major bear issue. The couple who we met at Cirque had their canoe mauled and they are patching it up. While we were waiting on the dock Tor came back with the Cessna and 3 Parks Guides with guns – time to manage the bear. They have closed one of the hikes so it may change tomorrows plan. We have set up camp and Perry with all of his experience watching survivor man rigged up rocks in a metal water bottle on a string around our camp – Perry, Mike, Dale, Dave and I are within a 15 fort circle all within reach of each other, each with bear spray in the tent.

Dinner back over an open fire. They flew in fresh food for us to Rabbit Kettle and the boys are thrilled because a case of beer came with it.

We have had 3 brilliant days of hiking. Our Canoes await!!! Tomorrow the canoeing starts.
