Mt. Vinson here we come

Well we are up and at it first thing this morning and Mike, who gives us the news re: the weather on the day, has let us know that the skies have cleared over Vinson and we will be flying today!  The plan is to leave sometime around 12:00ish.  We are organizing packs/food and packing up this mroning; we anticipate -20 or so getting off the plane at base camp (2100m).  We hope to attempt the mountain over a period of 7 days, but as everyone knows it is often the mountain that dictates the schedule and not the climbers.

Next blog will be from Mt VINSON!!!!!!

Happy to hear you guys are on your way but there is one thing I would like to ask Dale, if your spit freezes by the time it hits your boot, what happens when nature calls, is there a chance you and willy will be frozen to the ground.

Read your description of your hike in the foggy weather. At GPS Central we are following Ian’s progress and wondered if the 60CSx was performing well under the extreme weather conditions? Good luck on your summit attempt.

I have full faith in Dave and Barry to steer you through this journey. I am so proud of you all as I feel that you have become an extended family. Please be careful. We love you. Fabulous!!! Maybe one of these days if you are ever near Montreal and have a minute we could meet for a coffee and rehash. I am so excited about your project and wish you all the best and continued good health for a successful adventure.

  27. Barry, Dale, Dave, Heather, Ian, Pat, Yanick…On The Mountain!

    Hello all interested

Just talked with Pat ( Dr. Patricia Murphy ( my dear sweet wife)) on Ian’s sat phone. Technology is unbelievable… sounded like she was calling from the office. They arrived at the base of Mt. Vinson about ” noonish” ( their time). It seems that they have decided to continue with P.A. time ( 2 hrs ahead). Weather apparantly better at vinson than PH… warmer too. She sounded wired with excitement and enthusiasm. Team spirits are reported as high. No one hurt, nothing broken, all still speaking with each other!! Dale doing well. Plenty of food and supplies ( no doubt ….spices, chocolate, single malt fuel, etc etc ) Truly a succesful expedition so far. Lets all hope for clear weather so they can get up there. She indicated that if all went well and the weather cooperated it would still be a week to summit so don’t count on return of the party until at least the very end of Dec.

It is Anne Ferguson! I have been watching this for the past week and finally just figured out how to send you a message. The pics are breathtaking and it sounds like you are having the time of your life! We are all watching you daily here at the office. It sounds like you are about to be on the mountain–fantastic! 34. Your Trek

    Heather et al
How so very important is the message that you carry with this incredible test of your physical limits and resolve to achieve. I read your updates and blogs from family and friends daily. Then I turn to another account from a classmate who is with her brother who has just had a kidney transplant in … Pakistan. Your endeavours must give hope to those who are waiting for organs. Do we dare dream that every Canadian who needs a transplant can have one, and here in Canada. You all are helping to make this come true.

A verse from a favourite hymn.
God who touches earth with beauty
    Make my heart anew
    With thy spirit recreate me
    Pure and strong and true.

    Be safe.
